Introduction

Shikaripara Mahavidyalaya, Shikaripara is a permamnent affiliated unit of Sido-Kanhu Murmu University, Dumka and also is registered under section 2(f) and 12(B) of University Grant Commission Act, 1956. The Mahavidyalaya is a Govt. aided Mahavidyalaya, has been receiving Govt. Aid (Anudaan) from the Government of Jharkhand State since 2007. The Mahavidyalaya is run and managed by the Governing Body formed by SKMU, Dumka.

Shikaripara Mahavidyalaya, Shikaripara is situated at the Shikaripara Tribal Development Block in Dumka District of the Santal Parganas Commissionary. Shikaripara is 27 km. far from the district headquarter in the way of Rampurhat (West Bengal). It occupies the buffer position of the States of Jharkhand and West Bengal. Shikaripara is absolutely a scheduled and rural area, where more than 73% of total population are SCs & STs. It is a very backward area and completely cut off from the main stream of the nation.
In such a population, Shikaripara Mahavidyalaya is the only institution for higher education, which is propagating education since 1982.

Shikaripara Mahavidyalaya provides a model coeducational institutional environment to its pupils for higher education. Two faculties - Arts and Science constitute the Mahavidyalaya. A team of well qualified and well behaved teaching and non-teaching staff are devoted to run the Mahavidyalaya.

Shikaripara Mahavidyalaya, Shikaripara, established in 1982, is only one degree Mahavidyalaya in the region under the radius of about 30 kms.

Establishment of the Mahavidyalaya
The Mahavidyalaya was established in 1982. Late Diwakar Mishra, Secretary of the Shikaripara Samagra Parishad (Khadi Bhandar) and Sri Srikant Jha, Headmaster of Govt. High School, Shikaripara were the founder of the Mahavidyalaya. Sri Deepak Kant Dubey, now he leaved the Mahavidyalaya, was the Professor-In charge of Mahavidyalaya. They all had worked hard to establish and run the Mahavidyalaya. And now we the Mahavidyalaya Pariwar are very grateful to them.

Status of Affiliation

[A] The Mahavidyalaya has got its first affiliation in 25th March of 1991 from the academic session 1989-90 for 3 academic sessions from the Government of Bihar. The affiliation had been granted for Degree Pass Level in two faculties, i.e., Arts and Science for the following 16 subjects - 11 in Arts and 5 in Science :

Arts - Hindi, English, Bengali, Santali, Sociology, History, Economics, Political Science, Psychology, Labour & Social Welfare and Philosophy

Science - Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology and Mathematics.

[B] The Mahavidyalaya has got the first extension of the affiliation in 13th July of 1995 from the academic session 1992-93 for 5 academic sessions from the Government of Bihar without any condition. The affiliation had been granted for Degree Pass as well as Honours Level in above said two faculties, i.e., Arts and Science for the above mentioned 16 subjects - 11 in Arts and 5 in Science. Instead, 3 new subjects in Faculty of Arts were included, as follows :

Arts - Hindi, English, Bengali, Santali, Sociology, History, Economics, Political Science, Psychology, Labour & Social Welfare and Philosophy New Subjects :- Sanskrit, Rural Economics and Geography.

Science - Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology and Mathematics.

[C] The Mahavidyalaya has got the 2nd extension of the affiliation in 19th July of 2003 from the academic session 2003 to 2006 for 3 academic sessions from the Government of Jharkhand without any condition vide letter no. 522. The affiliation had been granted for Degree Pass as well as Honours Level in above said two faculties, i.e., Arts and Science for the above mentioned 16 subjects - 11 in Arts and 5 in Science. Instead, 3 new subjects in Faculty of Arts were included, as follows :

Arts - Hindi, English, Bengali, Santali, Sociology, History, Economics, Political Science, Psychology, Labour & Social Welfare and Philosophy New Subjects :- Sanskrit, Rural Economics and Geography.

Science - Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology and Mathematics.

[D] The Mahavidyalaya has got the Permanent Affiliation in 12th July of 2007 from the academic session 2007 vide letter no. 5/l 1-35/2002. The affiliation had been granted for Degree Pass as well as Honours Level in above said two faculties, i.e., Arts and Science for the 23 subjects - 18 in Arts and 5 in Science.

Arts - Hindi, English, Bengali, Sanskrit, Santali, Philosophy, Political Science, History, Economics, Sociology, Rural Economics, Psychology, Labour & Social Welfare and Geography.

Science - Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology and Mathematics.

Lands & Building
The Mahavidyalaya has 17 Acres and 12 Decimals of lands. The lands of the Mahavidyalaya are scattered in three distinct parts, which are located within 1 Kilometre from the main building of the Mahavidyalaya. A building of the Mahavidyalaya is situated at the walking distance, along with the main road to Dumka-Rampurhat, of the Block Headquarter and the market of Shikaripara. The building is well surrounded by the boundary wall up to 6' height. A garden, well fenced with the bricks, is decorative in the lap of the Mahavidyalaya building.

We have a clear cut vision to our Mahavidyalaya. Our students are our target and we exert our best efforts to make them very successful in their academic as well as social fronts. Our Mission is fulfilled through: (i) the delivery of exemplary instruction to students at the undergraduate and graduate levels; (ii) production, interpretation, and dissemination of sound and useful research and scholarship; (iii) leadership, collaboration, and service within the profession; (iv) and promotion, understanding, and celebration of diversity.

CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK
Our Conceptual Framework serves as the guide for fulfilling our vision of preparing educators to be knowledgeable, ethical, caring decision makers for a diverse and changing world. The Mahavidyalaya of Education strives to address three major areas in preparing the teachers of tomorrow:
General Education - courses and experiences that help students develop theoretical and practical knowledge and understanding related to the arts, communications, history, literature, mathematics, philosophy, sciences, and the social studies.

Content Area Studies - courses and experiences provide students opportunities to master the structure, skills, concepts, ideas, values, facts, and methods of inquiry unique to their discipline.

Professional Studies - courses and clinical and field-based experiences ensure that students understand and apply appropriate strategies for meeting individual learning needs in the diverse educational environment. Professional studies courses and experiences are designed to address the following four categories: Perspectives and Preparation, Learning Environment, Instruction and Professionalism.
